Rockstar confirmed on October 8 that Flash FM returns in GTA 6, the first classic Vice City station to officially come back. That immediately raises the obvious question: which others could follow? Six stations have been revealed out of an unannounced total, and Rockstar's own copy points at unnamed Classic Rock and Talk Radio stations still to come. So there is room. This is speculation, clearly labelled, built on what the 1986 and 1984 dials actually contained and on one hard constraint most wishlists ignore.
The constraint nobody accounts for: 40 years
The original GTA Vice City is set in 1986. Vice City Stories is set in 1984. GTA 6 is set in the present day. That is roughly a 40 year gap, and it does most of the work in deciding what can plausibly return.
A real radio station surviving 40 years usually does it by changing format entirely or by becoming a nostalgia play. The call letters persist, the playlist does not. So the honest question is not "which stations come back," it is "which station identities could survive four decades of format drift and still mean something."
That is exactly what happened to Flash FM. In 1986 it was pop hosted by Toni. In GTA 6 it is pop hosted by Robyn and Alex Consani. Same identity, completely different music. That is the template, and it tells you what to look for.
The 1986 and 1984 dials
For reference, here is what Vice City actually had:
| Station | Format | Host |
|---|---|---|
| Flash FM | Pop | Toni |
| V-Rock | Hard rock and metal | Couzin Ed |
| Wave 103 | New wave | Adam First |
| Emotion 98.3 | Ballads and soft rock | Fernando Martinez |
| Fever 105 | Disco and R&B | Oliver "Ladykiller" Biscuit |
| Radio Espantoso | Latin jazz, mambo, salsa | Pepe |
| Wildstyle | Electro and early hip-hop | Mr. Magic |
| VCPR | Talk radio | Maurice Chavez |
| K-Chat | Celebrity talk | Amy Sheckenhausen |
Vice City Stories added Paradise FM, Fresh 105 FM, and VCFL (Vice City For Lovers).
Ranked by plausibility
1. VCPR, the strongest candidate
Vice City Public Radio is the one station whose identity does not depend on a genre at all. Talk radio is talk radio. And Rockstar has explicitly said an unnamed Talk Radio station is on the dial.
VCPR also carried the series' sharpest satire, and GTA 6's confirmed satirical approach is "larger than life" and grotesque rather than cruel, which is VCPR's exact register. The complication is that Rockstar has also confirmed on-demand podcasts as a series first, and it is genuinely unclear whether podcasts and the Talk Radio station are the same system or two different things. Rockstar has not said. More in talk radio stations.
Verdict: most likely of any classic station, though possibly reinvented rather than revived.
2. V-Rock, with a twist
V-Rock is complicated by the fact that its slot is arguably already filled. The Chamber 106.6 is a metal station playing classics from the 1980s onward, hosted by Kerry King and Tom Araya of Slayer. Note that Slayer's music appeared on V-Rock back in 2002, so the same band now hosts the spiritual successor.
So V-Rock as a name could still return, but The Chamber appears to be doing its job. The unnamed Classic Rock station is a likelier home for V-Rock's branding than a straight metal revival would be. We covered the longer odds in will V-Rock return.
Verdict: the function is taken, the name is available.
3. Fever 105, the sleeper
Fever 105 played disco and R&B in 1986. The modern equivalents, contemporary R&B and dance music, are both enormous and both conspicuously absent from the six revealed stations. There is a genuine gap on this dial where an R&B or dance station should be.
Fever 105's identity, smooth late-night R&B with a lounge-lizard host, also translates forward more cleanly than most. Oliver Biscuit's persona would work today almost unchanged.
Verdict: the clearest unfilled genre gap on the revealed dial.
4. Radio Espantoso, probably superseded
Radio Espantoso was 1950s to 1970s Cuban and Latin jazz, deliberately archival even in 1986. Cocoteo FM now holds the Latin slot with bachata, merengue, dembow, and reggaeton, which is a Caribbean diaspora palette rather than a jazz one.
Could both exist? Sure, if the dial is large. But a retro Latin jazz station is a narrower proposition than a modern Latin station, and Rockstar has already made its pick. The full comparison is in Latin music in Grand Theft Auto.
Verdict: possible as a second Latin station, unlikely as a priority.
5. Wave 103 and Emotion 98.3, the hardest sells
These two are the most beloved and the least transferable. Wave 103 was new wave, a genre that is specifically and inseparably of its moment. Emotion 98.3 was power ballads and soft rock, likewise.
Both could return as retro stations, playing the same 1980s music 40 years later, which is a real format that real stations run. But that makes them nostalgia stations inside a contemporary game, which is a different thing from a returning station. Rockstar has given no indication of a retro or oldies station on the dial.
Verdict: emotionally the most wanted, structurally the least likely.
6. K-Chat and Wildstyle
K-Chat's celebrity-interview format is arguably more relevant now than in 1986, but it overlaps heavily with both VCPR and the podcast system. Wildstyle played electro and early hip-hop; Dirty South Classics now covers regional Southern rap, which is a different lineage but occupies adjacent shelf space.
Verdict: both plausible as deep-dial additions, neither likely to be headlined.
What is actually confirmed
To be absolutely clear about the line between the above and the facts: confirmed is six stations, their genres, their 13 named personas, playable previews, on-demand podcasts as a series first, on-foot listening through the in-game phone, and Flash FM as a returning station.
Not confirmed is the total station count, any Classic Rock or Talk Radio station name, any tracklist, self radio or custom music support, any podcast detail, whether reception varies by region, whether any persona appears on screen, and the return of any classic station other than Flash FM. Everything in the ranking above is speculation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has Rockstar confirmed any returning station besides Flash FM?
No. Flash FM is the only confirmed returning Vice City station.
Is VCPR coming back?
Unconfirmed. Rockstar has said an unnamed Talk Radio station exists, which is the strongest available hint, but it has not named VCPR.
Could the classic 1980s music come back?
Only via a retro or oldies format, since GTA 6 is set in the present day. No such station has been announced.
How many stations will GTA 6 have in total?
Unannounced. GTA 5 launched with 16 plus self radio, but Rockstar has published no figure for GTA 6.
The Bottom Line
Flash FM shows the mechanism: a classic station returns by keeping its identity and throwing out its playlist. By that standard VCPR is the best bet, since talk radio survives format drift better than any genre station, and Rockstar has all but confirmed a Talk Radio slot exists. Fever 105 sits on the most obvious unfilled gap. Wave 103 and Emotion 98.3 are the ones people want most and the ones a present-day setting makes hardest. All of which is reasoning, not reporting, and with 40 days to launch Rockstar has named six stations out of a total it has never disclosed.
